KJMS Instructors:

Master Rudy W. Timmerman, MMA, B. Sc.
Chief Master Rudy W. Timmerman has decades of experience teaching martial arts. He began his martial art studies in Holland, his native country, when he was ten years old. In 1973 Master Timmerman established his school and called it Ancient Fighting Arts. Today, his school is the oldest established martial art school in Sault Ste. Marie. The year 2000 will be a very special year. Master Timmerman will celebrate his 60th birthday, he will have practiced martial arts for 50 years, and he will host the 30th anniversary Can-Am Classics.

Master Instructor: Kwan Jang Nim Rhonda MacLeod, B.Sc. Exercise & Recreation. Kwan Jang Nim MacLeod is now Head Instructor of Master Timmerman's school, and she is in charge of student progress. Rhonda began her training with Master Timmerman as a While Belt and stopped shortly after being promoted to 5th Dahn when she decided to pursue her master's degree and focus on family.  During her career, Kwanjang Nim MacLeod earned no less than four World Championships, two British Commonwealth Championships, and numerous National and Regional Championships. When Master Timmerman returned to Lake Superior State University, Kwanjang Nim MacLeod joined him and earned her Bachelors Degree in Recreation plus Exercise Science. She is now working on a Degree in Therapeutic Rec.

While they were students at LSSU, Master Timmerman started the LSSU Kuk Sool Won Club and put Sabum Nim MacLeod in charge of the club. While she was in charge of the club, she prepared fellow classmate Frank Bumstead for his first Degree in Kuk Sool. Frank now operates his own school in Grand Haven, Mi. Sabum Nim MacLeod also played a big role in the training of Tim Owens and Larry Johansen who now operates his own school in Berkely, Mi. Both students now train directly with the Grandmaster.

Program Director/Instructor: Sa Bum Nim Ronda Bourdage, B.Sc Physical Ed.
Ronda is a 4th Degree Black Belt.
She became interested in martial arts after her son, Carl Bourdage, received his Black Belt from Master Timmerman. In fact, she became so enthusiastic about the martial arts she encouraged her entire family to join. Her husband Phil is now a Red Belt, and he is well on his way to become the third Black Belt in the family. Ronda takes great care of our students, and she makes sure their expectations are fully met. Thus, Ronda is an integral part of Master Timmerman's constant drive to deliver above average service to his students. Don't be surprised if you receive a call from Ronda, or from any other Instructors to see how we can help you achieve your goals.

Instructors:

Note:
To become an Instructor at Timmerman's Martial Arts, you will have passed all the requirements for advancement to Second Degree Black Belt, have current First-Aid and CPR certification, have a Canadian Coaching Certification or equivalant, an NKMAA (level three) referee certificate, have spent at least two years as an apprentice Black Belt Instructor, and satisfy Master Timmerman's strict scrutiny for Instructors.

Needless to say to achieve a higher status -- such as Senior or Head Instructor -- you must be exceptional! All our Senior Instructors have University Degrees. Junior Instructors must continue their efforts to attain higher academics in order to become full fledged Instructors. When we ask our young students to do well in school, we lead by example! Parents just love our academic achievement awards.

Aaron Dumas is a recently promoted 3rd Degree Black Belt. He began his training with Master Timmerman at the very young age of four (almost five), and he has persevered for more than a decade. A remarkable feat of determination! Like all other Instructors at Master Timmerman's school, Pu Sabum Nim Aaron does well with his academic pursuit of Black Belt Excellence, and he has been accepted by the University of Toronto to further his studies.

Aaron is very good with younger adults, and his humor while he instructs is much appreciated. Pu Sabum Nim Aaron spends many hours perfecting his expertise with weapons, and his specialties are the long sword and middle staff.

Rod Wilson is currently a 4th degree black belt who began his training as a very young boy and, like his classmate Aaron, he has persevered for more than a decade of training.  Among Rod's accomplishments are no less than three Junior Black Belt World Championships.

To become a World Champion in Kuk Sool, you must excel in seven categories including: the staff, the sword, sparring, breaking, self defense, classical techniques, and forms. Sabum Nim Rod is presently working hard to excel in Korean weapons, and he practices for hours on end to achieve better results
