Timmerman's KJMS Programs
Our programs are designed to fit the individual. Each student is allowed to progress at his
or her own speed, and progress is checked at the end of every month. In this manner, no one
at Timmerman's KJMS is left behind or forgotten, and each student receives the timely feedback
s/he deserves. For safety reasons, we offer separate childrens' classes, although we
encourage parents and their children to spend quality time together in our "Family Classes".
In fact, we value the family unit so much we offer families a substantial discount.
Childrens' Programs and Instructors
Children are the pride and joy of our school and, when Master Timmerman found an extraordinary children's
Instructor in San-Francisco, he sent his Head Instructor Rhonda MacLeod there to study with him.
Rhonda is assisted by Second Degree Black Belt Instructor Ronda Bourdage, a former school teacher.
Check our Instructors page for more information on these two and
other instructors.
While the focus of our childrens' classes are to provide life skills and self-defense training,
we do it in a manner that is fun and upbeat. Without the fun part, children soon become bored
with their training, and no one can teach a child who does not want to be in class. To teach
such classes takes skill, education, and constant staff training. You will be happy to know
that your child is taught by expert Instructors who know how to put fun in their class, who
have the education to make classes effective, and who continue to upgrade their own skills.
Tiny Tigers Ages 4-5:
Although we offer this pre-martial art class to children age four and five, some children are
able to function quite well at age three. We don't enforce the age rule as much as we care
about the ability of the child to pay attention for at least forty-five minutes. The program
is designed to develop listening skills, improve fine motor skills, and encourage courteous
peer interaction. Our Tiny Tigers have a lot of fun learning the basic martial art moves and
acrobatic skills. Many parents work with the children involved in this program, and they
find it to be an excellent family activity.
Children Ages 6-13:
Again, this junior martial art program does not depend on the age as much as it does on the ability of
child to participaate in a class without disrupting it. Master Timmerman carefully designed our junior
curriculum and rank system with one thing in mind: to improve your child's self-esteem,
discipline, and attention span. Your child will earn meaningful rank in a timely manner that
is encourageing, rewarding, and promotes confidence.
Following are but a few examples of how Master Timmerman goes about teaching these
valuable, life enhancing skills. To prevent our competition from copying our programs,
we decline to describe our entire program in detail on our web-site; however, we do offer
all prospective students the opportunity to check our programs for themselves without any
risk whatsoever. Join our free two week introductory program now!
Jefferson Institute of Character Development
Timmerman's KJMS offers the renowned STAR character development program developed by Jefferson's
Institute of Character Development. This program has been implemented in hundreds of elementary
schools across North-America, and we are one of the few martial art schools who are licensed to
teach this program. Children love receiving the STAR pins, and parents rave about the STAR program.
Scholastic Achievement Program
Timmerman's KJMS encourages high scholastic achievement for our students, because we
know how important education is in finding employment later in life. We have found this program
has a tremendous impact on the scholastic efforts of our students. This has helped parents and
teachers turn below average students into high achievers. It is not unusual to find an entire
class of young children at KJMS whose report cards are well above average. This makes Master
Timmerman very proud indeed!
Conflict Resolution Program
Peaceful conflict resolution is on the mind of every responsible citizen today. With newspapers
and T.V. reporting the most hideous crimes committed by mere children, this is no wonder.
It is not enough to just think about it, something must be done! While respect for self, others,
and the property of others is the number one focus in Master Timerman's school, additional work
is required in this vital area of character development. Your child is bombarded with negative
peer pressure on a daily basis, and it is an uphill battle that requires skill and determination
to combat. Master Timmerman is now developing a new program that will address violence among
our youth, head on. Watch for this new and exciting program this Fall.
Family Programs:
Master Timmerman encourages families to spend quality time working out with one another. To
this end, each Friday, Timmerman's KJMS provides its students with an opportunity to practice
with other immediate family members free of any additional charge (even if other family members
are not enrolled in our school). In addition, Timmerman's KJMS allows family members to enroll
at a greatly reduced price. Master Timmerman also provides reduced entry fees to our Can-Am
Classics Tournament, seminars, and other events.
The martial art taught at Timmerman's KJMS is one of the most versatile and devastating
self-defense systems available today, and our programs can easily be learned regardless of your
age or present physical condition.
Our Personal Fitness Trainers stand by to provide you with
a personalized program based on the awesome self-defense training used by martial artists for
thousands of years. Students find that training at Timmerman's KJMS dramatically increases their
fitness, health and personal protection skills. At the same time, our challenging
lessons provide students with a very effective way to release stress caused by a busy
work schedule. Master Timmerman and his Head Instructor are University graduates in Recreation
and Exercise Scienceand we make sure you train in complete safety, ready and invigorated to
do your important tasks.
While the self-defense skills of the Orient are devastating, it must be understood that
Westerners can easily hurt themselves if this training is not modified to suit our body
and living habits.
The ancient Orientals who devised these magnificent techniques did not use
chairs, and their beds consisted of a simple mat on the floor. This style of living developed
their leg muscles in an entirely different way than that of the Westerners who normally sit on chairs
and sleep in bed several feet off the floor. Our body structure and weight is also must
different than that of the average Oriental. Therefore, Master Timmerman developed and adapted
the ancient techniques to better suit our way of life without sacrificing the effectiveness
of techniques.
We know of no other Instructor teaching traditional martial arts in this area who takes
these important differences into consideration (or who has the expertise to enhance ancient
martial art principles to fit you). It is no wonder that many martial art practitioners end
up with serious knee and elbow problems. Master Timmerman recognized the importance of our
different body structure and life style pertaining to martial art training long ago,and he
is proud to say these problems are non-existent among the martial art practitioners
who started their training with him. Only those students who received their Black Belts from
other masters (and later came to train with Master Timmerman) developed such problems. This
interesting fact reinforces Master Timmerman's theory on this subject.
Cardio Kicking:
Cardio Kicking, taught by an expert in the field, burns 800 plus calories per hour. No belts
or uniforms are required. There is no physical contact between partners, and no experience
is needed. In addition to learning some powerful punching and kicking, each class includes
a devastating self-defense technique for those who wish to stay and learn more. You learn
while you burn. Join us for a free week of fun and excitement!
Master Timmerman was the first Instructor to bring this latest fitness craze to the Sault.
Since then, many other schools and fitness spas have jumped on the bandwagon to offer this
exciting program. Unfortunately, few Instructors possess the required skills to teach you
properly. It takes much more than being an Aerobics Instructor to teach proper and safe punching
and kicking skills. Similarily, few martial art Instructors have the knowledge to run
an effective and safe aerobics program. Both are highly specialized fields. It takes years
of dedicated practice to learn these skills, let alone teach them. Again, the lack of control
in the fitness industry makes it essential you carefully check out the credentials of your Instructors.
Since certification in the martial art industry lacks any kind of standardization, you would be
wise to observe several classes and carefully check on the credentials of the Instructor you
entrust with your health.
Master Timmerman is proud to offer his students the benefit of the more than forty-five
years of experience, and he is the only Master in this region who has actually coached
a number of his students to become World Champion martial artists. The ability to coach
someone to become a world champion is a skill many world champions do not possess themselves.
Master Timmerman's Cardio Instructors are fully certified by NAPMAA -- the National Association
of Professional Martial Artists. More importantly, his Chief Cardio Instructor, Rhonda MacLeod,
is a professional fitness expert who has herself won four World Championships. All programs
at Timmerman's KJMS are taught and/or closely monitored by Master Timmerman and Rhonda. If
you are considering joining a Cardio Program to enhance your health and personal security,
why join a school or spa whose Instructors are less qualified? You are worth being taught
by the most experienced team!
