KJN Seminars:
Some of our members still have not confirmed the dates of tentative seminars
at their school. As I have said before, I MUST have sufficient time to make
arrangements, and if you leave it any longer I will be forced to cancel your
tentative event. Master McDonald, of New Brunswick, Canada plans to host me
for a seminar in June or July. As soon as I have the details, I will
contact you.
NKMAA Tournament:
Several members have indicated that they would like to participate in the
annual Can-Am Classics here in Sault Ste Marie. With this in mind, we might
think of making the Classics an NKMAA open Championship. To be sure, we
will start out very small, but the biggest trees in the world started out
just that way. Give me a shout if participating in this event sounds
interesting to you. If this is to work, we'll need the support of our
members. Sincerely, Rudy, kwan jang

Chief Master Timmerman, accompanied by Head Instructor Rhonda MacLeod,
traveled to the East Coast to be inducted in the Pioneers and Legends
Hall of Fame on May 21st. Grand-master Ed Brown, a 10th degree Black
Belt, hosted the Black Tie dinner and award ceremony. Although
extremely poor weather interrupted some flights, the Gala affair was
attended by a host of Founders, Grandmasters, and Masters from a wide
variety of martial art styles.
Another Canadian to be honoured at this year's ceremony was Masami Tsuruoka of Toronto. Grandmaster Tsuruoka, a 10th Dahn, is considered to be the "Father of Canadian Karate" , and a true Pioneer of Japanese martial arts in Canada. U.S. honorees included Professor Eugene Humeski, 9th Dahn Grandmaster of UTB Tae Kwon Do, who received his Diamond Life Achievement Award, and Jim Lacy of California, Grandmaster of Kung Fu, who gained fame for his fantastic breaking feats on the Johnny Carson show.
The Martial Arts Pioneers and Legends Hall of Fame was established to recognize outstanding personal achievements of martial artists the world over. This year's Hall of Fame attracted Founders and Grandmasters representing no less than fifty-three different martial art styles. Nominees are carefully scrutinized before being inducted, and to-date, only 44 Grandmasters have been inducted in this Hall of Fame.
