Grandmaster Timmerman's Achievements

Master Timmerman has published several technical articles on martial arts, and he was featured on countless T.V. and radio programs as far away as San Francisco and as exotic as the Korean Broadcasting Co (who awarded him a commemorative pin). He has lectured, demonstrated, and participated in seminars and workshops in Canada, U.S., and Europe. His students have won numerous World Championships, and as Coach he stresses sportsmanship and strict martial art etiquette. Master Timmerman has appeared in numerous martial art articles in various trade magazines. In 1991, he was awarded the WKSA best Instructor award, and in March, 1992 he appeared on the front cover of Tae Kwon Do Times. In 1994 he was nominated for the Martial Art Hall of Fame and later for the Martial Art Pioneers and Legends. He has received the Key to several cities, as well as numerous commendations from various cities, provincial and state officials.

In his own schools, and as Chief Instructor of Timmerman's KJMS Inc., Master Timmerman encourages high scholastic achievement, character development, and good citizenship among his students. According to the parents of his young children, he achieves these goals with regularity, and most of his students are great kids with an above average grade in school. The citizens of Sault Ste. Marie recognize his efforts in promoting good citizenship, and Master Timmerman was nominated for the City's Wallace Memorial award. During the early seventies, Master Timmerman was heavily involved in the Professional Kick boxing Association, and his first Black Belt, "Frenchie" Lamoureaux, climbed as high as fourth in the World standings before and industrial accident halted his budding career. Master Timmerman was instrumental in the development of martial arts in Canada, and he has hosted and directed nearly thirty annual tournaments and served as Director for several associations.

Recognizing that North Americans valued the fitness benefits of martial arts, and that some of the exercises learned from Oriental Instructors are not suitable for Westerners, Master Timmerman went back to University in order to obtain more knowledge in the field of Exercise Science and Recreation. He graduated from Lake Superior State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1996. Master Timmerman's long range vision of the direction martial arts in North America would take has helped a number of his students obtain a more professional status by earning a Univeristy Degree in related fields. Master Timmerman applauds the efforts of the National Association of Professional Martial Artists in their efforts to upgrade the standards of martial arts in North America.
